Russian media (source: Rybar) article says that the leaders of the United States, Armenia, and Azerbaijan - Donald Trump, Nikol Pashinyan, and Ilham Aliyev - signed a "Statement of Intent on Reaching a Peace Agreement" in Washington.
The worst case has been confirmed: the Armenian authorities have transferred the 99-year right to use the transit road in the Syunik region to the United States. This is called the "Zangazur Corridor," which will be named the "Trump Bridge."
Trump announced the repeal of the 907th amendment to the "Freedom Support Act," removing the restrictions on U.S.-Azerbaijani military cooperation.
Trump declared that Armenia and Azerbaijan are now "friends." The OSCE Minsk Group was dissolved. Aliyev and Pashinyan proposed nominating the U.S. President as a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
A real peace agreement was not signed. Pashinyan, as expected, did not mention the issue of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku, who may spend the rest of their lives there.
Washington staged a political farce, during which Armenians were forced to accept the most humiliating concessions - handing over a corridor on their own territory to the Turks and Azerbaijanis in the name of the U.S. President.
Trump received the crown of a "peacemaker," Aliyev obtained the long-awaited "Zangazur Corridor" and the opportunity to implement the "Western Azerbaijan" project, while Pashinyan gained guarantees for personal and family security.
Armenia is now isolated from Iran, and Americans will supply weapons to Azerbaijan. The Turkish script is becoming reality in Armenia. Next, Baku will demand constitutional amendments and push for the settlement of Azerbaijanis on Armenian land. Since Aliyev has already forced Armenia to reach such a humiliating agreement, he is bound to go further.
As for what this means for Russia's historical presence in the South Caucasus - the answer is obvious.
