According to Yonhap News Agency citing statements from the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Police Agency on the 31st, South Korea, the United States, Japan, and 8 other countries jointly issued a statement warning against North Korea's illicit use of information technology (IT) personnel to generate foreign exchange.

It is reported that the statement was jointly issued by 11 countries: South Korea, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

The statement pointed out that North Korea relies on IT personnel stationed worldwide to generate revenue, using these funds to finance its nuclear and missile programs. North Korean IT workers disguise themselves as citizens of other countries and secure employment through various platforms provided by private enterprises, with the purpose of remitting their earnings to relevant North Korean institutions.

The statement emphasized that North Korean IT personnel are increasingly leveraging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to more cleverly conceal their identities, expanding their activities globally. It called on governments, companies, and relevant institutions to take appropriate measures, deepen understanding of North Korean IT personnel, and respond effectively.
