According to Japan's Kyodo News agency, on August 1: The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it has confirmed that China is constructing new structures in waters immediately adjacent to the Chinese side of the so-called "middle line in the East China Sea between China and Japan".

Japan states: Including this newly confirmed steel structure, a total of 24 new constructions have now been identified.

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "It is extremely regrettable that China is unilaterally advancing development in these waters."

Mr. Masashi Kanai, Director-General of the Asia and Oceania Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lodged a protest with Deputy Ambassador Shi Yong at the Chinese Embassy in Japan.

Japan claims: "It demands concrete implementation of the joint development agreement reached between China and Japan in 2008."
