Korean Media: Hormuz Extremely Tense Again… Trump's "Withdraw Ships" vs Iran's "Violation of Truce"

According to U.S. President Donald Trump, starting from the 4th of Middle Eastern time, the United States will assist third-country vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz in safely passing through. In response, Iranian senior officials stated that the U.S.'s aforementioned plan might violate the truce.

On the 3rd local time, according to reports by Anadolu Agency and others, Iran's Parliament's Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Chairman Ebrahim Azizi stated via X (formerly Twitter): "Any form of U.S. intervention regarding the new maritime order in the Strait of Hormuz will be regarded as a violation of the truce." He also said: "The Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf will not be controlled by Trump's delusional (social media) posts."

These remarks came after Trump announced the launch of his so-called "Freedom Plan" starting at 10 a.m. Middle Eastern time on the 4th, aimed at assisting third-country vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz to safely depart.

On the same day, Trump announced via Truth Social: "Countries around the world have been reaching out to the U.S., asking whether we can help rescue their vessels trapped in the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "I have ordered our delegation to inform relevant countries that the U.S. will do everything possible to ensure the safe evacuation of their vessels and crews from the strait." He further stated: "Should any humanitarian efforts face obstacles in any form, the U.S. deeply regrets this and will take firm measures." The specific details of this plan have not yet been disclosed publicly.

In response, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) cited two senior U.S. officials stating that the purpose of this initiative is to collaborate with multiple countries, insurance companies, and shipping organizations to coordinate and ensure smooth passage for vessels traversing the Strait of Hormuz. The official added that the option of having U.S. warships escort vessels through the Strait has not yet been considered.
