The footprint of the United States in Kazakhstan, the largest economy in Central Asia: one of the largest sources of foreign investment
Kazakhstan International News Agency - According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Kuantlov held multiple meetings with representatives of international financial institutions and the private sector in Washington, New York, and San Francisco during his working visit to the United States.
At the World Bank, Kuantlov met with Norma Loaisa, Director of the Global Indicators Group for the "Business Ready" (BR) project. The two sides had in-depth discussions on the improvement of methods for assessing the investment environment, how to reflect regional characteristics, and the impact of non-tariff barriers on business activities. As a new framework aimed at replacing the "Doing Business" assessment system, the "Business Ready" project was officially launched in 2024, and Kazakhstan will be included in the scope of this project's assessments starting in 2025. Kazakhstan expressed its willingness to actively provide local data and participate in expert consultations to ensure that the relevant assessments fully reflect the country's actual situation.
In a meeting with Stephanie Ashton, Vice President of Business Development at "IG Global", the two sides discussed potential investment projects in the mining sector of Kazakhstan.
In San Francisco, Kuantlov exchanged views with the "Bay Area Economic Institute" and the "San Francisco Chamber of Commerce", highlighting the investment attractiveness of Kazakhstan and discussing ways to expand cooperation with technology companies in Silicon Valley.
Additionally, Kuantlov held bilateral meetings with several companies, covering areas such as sustainable energy, raw material processing, biotechnology, and technological cooperation.
The meeting with "Windfall Bio" focused on methane-capturing microorganism technology and its application prospects in the agricultural complex of Kazakhstan.
The exchange with "Boardwurks" centered around the joint development of hemp composite building materials.
"Astranis Space Technologies Corp." introduced to the Kazakh side feasible solutions for providing satellite communication services to remote areas.
At the "Silkroad Innovation Hub", Kuantlov exchanged views with U.S. representatives on supporting Kazakhstani startups, developing international incubation projects, and creating favorable conditions for digital nomads in the United States.
This visit is an important measure by Kazakhstan to expand cooperation and promote economic diplomacy in the fields of technological innovation and sustainable development.
Kuantlov pointed out that the United States remains one of the largest sources of foreign investment in Kazakhstan, with a cumulative investment exceeding 62 billion U.S. dollars. In the current context, deepening dialogue with American partners, promoting the implementation of new projects, and enhancing mutual trust have significant strategic importance.
