Russia and Kazakhstan's cooperation on the transboundary river Irtysh: Pavlodar and Omsk explore joint projects
Kazakhstan International News Agency - A delegation from the Omsk region of Russia recently visited Pavlodar city, with bilateral talks covering multiple areas including transportation, logistics, industry, and agriculture, especially emphasizing the important role of the Irtysh River as a transboundary waterway.
During the meeting, both sides agreed that this river resource, which spans across Kazakhstan and Russia, should be used more efficiently and reasonably to promote regional economic cooperation. Vitaly Khotenko, the governor of the Omsk region, said:
"Our cooperation prospects are broad, and we just need to strengthen communication, especially between enterprises, and we will surely achieve good results."
It is reported that dozens of tons of goods from Kazakhstan and Russia have been transported through the Irtysh River, although most of the current cargo still relies on road transport. Participants also mentioned the tourism and cultural cooperation potential of the river, pointing out that the "Irtysh - River of Friendship" project, which has a history of ten years, is a symbol of the friendly exchanges between the two countries.
During this visit by the Omsk delegation, Pavlodar City and the Omsk Region officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen their cooperation.
