Russian Foreign Minister: Poland’s Inclusion in G20 Offers No Benefit

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Poland’s inclusion in the G20 would bring no benefit to the group, with Moscow asserting that there is no need for an additional European voice within the forum.

Speaking at a press conference following the conclusion of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, Lavrov said: "Regarding Poland: it brings no benefit to the G20… Therefore, we do not consider it necessary to add another European voice."

Lavrov noted that, by economic size, Poland does not fall within the category of nations eligible for inclusion in the G20.

"Secondly," he emphasized, "as Poland itself claims, it represents Eastern Europe. There is no such concept. Eastern Europe encompasses the EU and NATO frameworks, whose policies are already adequately represented by the countries that were founding members of the G20."
