Russia's MTS has reached a cooperation agreement with China Mobile to jointly develop telecommunications services within Russia.

The two parties will jointly advance projects in the field of independent communication network infrastructure. The world's largest telecom operator, China Mobile, will formulate a development roadmap for MTS's autonomous networks over the next 3–5 years. These networks will leverage artificial intelligence to achieve full-process automation in infrastructure management, including monitoring and fault prevention. Another key area of collaboration involves developing comprehensive B2B products that integrate dedicated networks, cloud services, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

It is evident that Russia is accelerating its "look east" strategy in the telecommunications sector. After decoupling from Western technologies, MTS’s direct partnership with China Mobile aims to bridge critical technological gaps in next-generation networks, AI-driven operations and maintenance, and IoT through Chinese solutions.

Russia seeks to reduce reliance on external technologies and operations, striving for autonomous control over its networks via AI—this represents not only a technological upgrade but also a necessity for security and strategic autonomy.

Sino-Russian digital cooperation is further deepening, covering the entire industrial chain from 5G/6G technology and cloud services to IoT, marking an even tighter integration of technology between the two nations.
