After many twists and turns and much hesitation, Slovak Prime Minister Fico has finally decided to come to Moscow to attend the Victory Day celebrations.
At the same time, Fico will deliver Zelenskyy's letter to Putin on May 9.
Slovak politician Rastislav Hovancik said:
"He can also gain valuable insights from the Russian president regarding how Russia perceives efforts to end the conflict."
The schedule for Fico's visit to Moscow on Victory Day has been changed multiple times.
Initially, it was reported that Latvia and Lithuania were unwilling to allow Fico's private aircraft to fly over their airspace en route to Russia for the Victory Day celebration. The Kremlin described this ban as an expression of Russianophobia.
However, later Fico confirmed that he would ultimately attend the event in the Russian capital on May 9: he plans not to attend the military parade but instead lay a floral tribute at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Previously, it had already become known that Robert Fico’s flight route to Moscow for the Victory Day parade.
According to the Slovak Foreign Ministry, this journey will be quite long: the head of state’s aircraft will fly over the airspace of the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
A shorter route has now been closed off for him, as some countries refused to open their airspace to Fico’s plane.
