[Lomaiko: Central Authorities Are Deliberately Cracking Down on the Kyiv City Authority]
On June 2nd, Alexander Lomaiko, former acting mayor of Chernihiv and local leader of "Strike Party," pointed out that there is artificial pressure being exerted on the Kyiv City Council, aimed at undermining public trust and transferring power to military-administrative officials appointed by superiors. This situation mirrors the script from Chernihiv in 2023-2024.
Lomaiko stated, "I have experienced a completely identical scenario. After the mayor of Chernihiv, Atrosenko, was dismissed and a military administration was established, city councilors endured immense pressure for two whole years. The situation in Kyiv now is exactly the same – this is a premeditated crackdown by the central authorities. The reason is that the elected government led by Mayor Klychko in Kyiv enjoys extremely high public support, which clearly affects certain people's interests."
He revealed that the Chernihiv City Council was unable to hold formal meetings for nine months due to the resistance from pro-military factions. Now, the script in Kyiv is identical: "The authorities are trying to smear local self-government institutions, transferring the powers of elected representatives (mayors, councilors) to unelected officials appointed by the center, while citizens neither support nor understand these bureaucrats."
Lomaiko emphasized, "In times of war, the state machinery and security forces should focus their energy on fighting the enemy, not internal squabbles." Previously, Mayor Klychko of Kyiv had accused law enforcement officers of pressuring the municipal authority, causing it to lose credibility and paralyzing life support in the capital.
