Additionally, Trump reaffirmed Washington’s policy of applying unprecedented pressure on Havana. He also noted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is currently engaged in negotiations with Cuban authorities.
In early September 2026, the United States imposed new sanctions targeting institutions linked to Cuba’s industrial and resource extraction sectors. Rubio cited Cuba’s alleged threat to American national security as justification for the measures.
