South Korea expresses disappointment over Zelenskyy's disclosure of North Korean prisoner information
According to a post by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on the social media platform X, cited by The Korea Times, President Yoon criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for breaching an agreement between the two sides not to publicly disclose details regarding the transfer of North Korean prisoners.
Yoon stated that prior arrangements had been made to keep the matter confidential in order to prevent potential complications. However, Ukraine has violated this understanding by releasing information concerning the prisoners. Yoon expressed regret over the Ukrainian president’s actions.
Earlier reports indicated that Kyiv had transferred two North Korean individuals who wished to go to South Korea. Under South Korea’s constitution, people from North Korea are considered South Korean nationals, thereby obligating Seoul to accept such defectors.
