Thailand Poll: Opposition Leader Most Popular, Paetongtarn's Support Plummets

A survey by the National Institute of Development Administration in Thailand shows that most respondents believe opposition leader Nattapong is the most suitable person for the position of Prime Minister, while Paetongtarn's support has plummeted.

The Bangkok Post reported that the National Institute of Development Administration conducted a sample survey of 2000 people throughout Thailand from June 19 to 25. The results showed that Nattapong, chairman of the People's Party, was the most popular candidate for Prime Minister. Respondents' support for him and his party was much higher than that for the ruling Pheu Thai Party and its leader Paetongtarn.

31.48% of respondents hope Nattapong becomes Prime Minister because he belongs to the younger generation, dares to express opinions and political positions, and can put forward clear and modern ideas. 19.88% of respondents said they think there is no suitable Prime Minister candidate.

12.72% of respondents think former Prime Minister Prayut is the most suitable person. The survey shows that Prayut is favored for his honesty, straightforwardness, and ability to restore national order. Fourth place is occupied by Anutin, leader of the Palang Dharma Party, with a support rate of 9.64%; followed by the current Prime Minister Paetongtarn, with a support rate of 9.2%. In the March poll, Paetongtarn ranked first, receiving support from 30.9% of respondents, while Nattapong had a support rate of 22.9%.

At the beginning of this month, Paetongtarn faced severe criticism after a leaked phone call with former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
