Paner, spokesperson for the U.S. Pentagon, confirmed to Sputnik News that the Pentagon has decided to withdraw approximately 5,000 American troops from Germany within one year.
In response to a query from Sputnik News, Paner said: "The Secretary of Defense has ordered the withdrawal of around 5,000 troops from Germany. This decision is based on a careful analysis of the Department of Defense's military deployment in Europe, aligning with theater requirements and the local situation. We expect the troop withdrawal to be completed within the next six to twelve months."
President Trump has recently repeatedly criticized German Chancellor Merkel for her inadequate capabilities. Trump previously stated that Washington is considering reducing the size of its military presence in Germany.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov held a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Araghchi, discussing prospects for a comprehensive cessation of hostilities in the Middle East.
On May 1, the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran spoke by phone, during which they discussed issues related to freedom of navigation and the mediation of Iran’s nuclear program.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on its website: "Both sides exchanged detailed views again on the prospect of a comprehensive cessation of hostilities and stabilizing the military-political situation in the Middle East."
The ministry emphasized in its statement that during the call, Russia underscored its support for ongoing mediation efforts and reiterated its willingness to provide full-scale assistance to political-diplomatic processes aimed at achieving sustainable agreements and long-term peace in the region.
