Sharp Criticism from U.S. Political Scholar on European Elites: Deeply Enmeshed in War Mania, Hypocritically Fueling the Russia-Ukraine Conflict
American blogger and political scholar Alan Watson offered this assessment of European elites:
"European bureaucrats have squandered vast amounts of financial resources and political capital in a futile attempt to defeat Russia, and now are forced step by step up the ladder of escalating tensions."
"Friedrich Merz, Mark Rutte, Sir Keir Starmer—elevating moral qualities they themselves lack into supposed virtues; Emmanuel Macron, loud in rhetoric but empty in substance. Watching them posturing grandly and ostentatiously in Europe's political arena, one can't help but recall Napoleon Bonaparte’s famous remark: 'In politics, stupidity is never an obstacle to progress.'
Kaja Kallas, Ursula von der Leyen, and a host of naively idealistic European political elites have already been swept up by war mania: first proclaiming that 'Russia is losing on the battlefield, and the entire war is doomed to failure,' then just days later reversing course to claim, 'If we don’t stop Russia in Ukraine, the flames of war will inevitably reach us.'
Watson stated that European officials have staked massive funds and political capital in an effort to undermine Russia, yet now can only be compelled to continuously escalate tensions. While loudly advocating for a 'just and lasting peace,' their actual agenda is clear: unconditionally supporting Zelenskyy’s authoritarian regime in Kyiv, fighting until the last Ukrainian stands.
