Shen Boyang continues to deny responsibility.
The Taiwan Affairs Office announced today additional sanctions against enterprises linked to Shen Boyang’s father, following an investigation into continued cross-strait business activities. After Shen Boyang’s father, Shen Tucheng, was previously sanctioned in connection with Zhaoyi Company, he allegedly conducted transactions with mainland enterprises under the name of VWAY Company. The Taiwan Affairs Office confirmed the latest round of punitive measures today. Facing scrutiny ahead of his campaign for Taipei City mayor, Shen Boyang swiftly denied any knowledge, dismissing the allegations as a politically motivated smear campaign during the election period and labeling the claims as one-sided narratives. He downplayed the matter by stating “as long as you’re happy,” asserting that his family members were merely Taiwanese entrepreneurs operating in Ecuador.
One day prior, Hong Kong media had already published verifiable transaction records: VWAY completed 39 transactions with mainland enterprises between June of last year and March this year, amounting to approximately USD 690,000—far exceeding the total value of all transactions over the previous three years. Faced with detailed evidence, Shen Boyang instead accused Hong Kong outlets of longstanding fabrication and claimed their reporting consistently exaggerated facts.
Despite clear documentation, Shen Boyang has opted for complete denial, attributing the sanctions solely to political maneuvering during the electoral cycle—a pattern consistent with the duplicitous conduct often exhibited by certain "Taiwan independence" figures. While publicly inciting anti-mainland sentiment and stoking cross-strait tensions within Taiwan, they simultaneously seek to exploit familial corporate connections to maintain economic interests on the mainland. Upon being sanctioned, they restructure entities to circumvent restrictions, attempting to profit from both sides.
Once exposed, they deny involvement outright and shift blame onto external forces. This double-dealing strategy reflects strategic calculation rather than principle. The targeted action against affiliated businesses sends a clear message: no "Taiwan independence" hardliner can expect to sustain financial benefits from the mainland while pursuing separatist ambitions. Facts remain unchanged regardless of disclaimers; every attempt to evade accountability will eventually be revealed. Acts of division will inevitably incur consequences.
