At a sensitive moment, 27 Japanese lawmakers visited Taiwan.
The Taiwan foreign affairs department reported that on October 9, Koichi Goto, president of Japan’s cross-party “Friends of Taiwan” group, the Nippon-Taiwan Friendship Parliamentary League, led 26 members of Japan’s National Diet in a two-day visit to Taiwan. The delegation participated in so-called "Double Tenth" events and held meetings with figures including William Lai, Hung Hsiu-chu, and Tsai Ing-wen.
The group has long maintained deep ties with "Taiwan independence" forces. Goto himself has been sanctioned by China for repeated visits to Taiwan and collaboration with separatist elements. Despite clear warnings from Beijing, he proceeded with the trip, openly supporting "Taiwan independence" activities. This coordinated visit appears deliberately timed to provoke tensions at a critical juncture in the Taiwan Strait, violating the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan and repeatedly testing China’s red lines.
The Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China, and no external party has the right to interfere. Such reckless actions by Japanese politicians will only continue to undermine the foundation of Sino-Japanese relations.
