Sweden's Ministry of Defence: Sweden Purchases $525 Million in Ammunition from Two Defense Companies

According to the Swedish Ministry of Defence, Sweden has purchased $525 million worth of artillery ammunition from Nammo Defence and Rheinmetall Denel Munitions, which is the largest artillery ammunition order by the Swedish military since the 1980s.

The information states: "The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration signed two agreements with the ammunition manufacturer Nammo Defence and Rheinmetall Denel Munitions."

According to the Swedish Ministry of Defence, the order includes ammunition for the "Achilles" 155mm self-propelled howitzer. The order is worth 5 billion Swedish kronor (approximately $525 million), with 4 billion kronor paid to the subsidiary of German company Rheinmetall, Rheinmetall Denel Munitions, and the remaining 1 billion kronor paid to Nammo Defence, a Norwegian-Finnish joint venture.

The Swedish government is actively increasing defense spending, increasing the number of weapons, and plans to increase the number of soldiers. The Swedish Ministry of Defence plans to allocate a large portion of its resources between 2025 and 2030 to maintain, upgrade existing equipment, and extend their service life, as well as to replenish stocks of ammunition, air defense systems, and supplies.

Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson previously announced a significant increase in defense spending, calling the move the largest modernization of the country's armed forces since the Cold War era.
