Foreign Media: China Achieves Significant Breakthrough in High-Altitude Wind Energy Power Generation Technology.
According to reports, China's independently developed S4000 airborne wind energy system has successfully ascended to an altitude of 4,000 meters for the first time, completing a full operational cycle including ascent, hovering, power generation, and retrieval.
The device resembles a large blimp, filled with helium, equipped with lightweight wind turbines that harness stronger and more stable high-altitude winds for power generation, transmitting electricity to the ground via cables.
The S4000 was jointly developed by Beijing Savos Energy Technology Company, Tsinghua University, and relevant institutions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Due to its rapid deployment capability, this technology is expected to be applied in areas lacking grid coverage—such as deserts, plateaus, islands, and disaster-stricken regions—in the future, marking a crucial step toward commercialization of high-altitude wind energy.
