Institute for the Study of War: Russia Is Increasingly Actively Turning Belarus into a Launchpad for Future Military Operations

The joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus have concluded, during which Russia transported nuclear weapons into Belarusian territory, and Belarusian troops conducted live-fire training with the Iskander-M missile system.

Meanwhile, Russia has carried out a series of strategic deterrence drills involving its navy, strategic aviation forces, and missile units, testing various missiles including the Yars, Kinzhal, and Zircon.

The Institute for the Study of War assesses that the Kremlin is further solidifying substantive control over Belarus and preparing its territory to accommodate a wide range of potential military operations.

Before 2022, Belarus officially maintained a status as a non-nuclear state. However, this identity quickly disappeared after Russian nuclear warheads and "Berezka" (or "Hazel") missiles entered Belarus.
