Japan Hopes U.S.-China Summit Will Contribute to Regional Stability

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Toshimitsu Motegi said Japan hopes that the upcoming summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader will contribute to global stability.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson previously announced that U.S. President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to China from May 13 to May 15.

Motegi said at a press conference: "The most important thing is for U.S.-China relations to help maintain stability in the international community, including Japan."

Motegi added that the Japanese government is closely monitoring developments with 'great interest.' He also emphasized that Japan will continue relying on its strong alliance with the United States to urge China to fulfill its responsibilities commensurate with its position in the world.
