Recently, according to Reuters, Toyota said that it will increase the price of some vehicles sold in the United States by an average of $270 (about 1939.6 RMB) starting in July.

Although a Toyota spokesperson denied that tariffs directly affected the price increase, the spokesperson said, "This latest price hike is part of our regular price review." However, this decision came after the failure of the Japan-US tariff negotiations.

This month on the 16th, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, speaking in Canada about the day's morning Japan-US summit, stated that both sides exchanged views on tariff issues but had not yet reached an agreement on the entire plan; on the 20th, Japanese Minister for Economic Revitalization Akasaka Ryo held a press conference after the cabinet meeting and stated regarding the Japan-US tariff negotiations, "The current situation is uncertain."

As of now, Japan and the US have not reached a trade agreement. According to President Trump's previous announcement of reciprocal tariffs, Japanese car companies exporting products to the US will be subject to a 25% tariff, while other industries face a 24% tariff. These tariffs are currently in the "suspension period" set by Trump, but will take effect on July 9th.

It is believed that the government negotiations that Japanese automakers had high hopes for have "basically failed," and Trump's statement that he would further increase tariffs is making these automakers, which heavily rely on exports to the US, think about the final solution.

In addition to Toyota's price increase, the average price of Lexus in the US will also rise by $208 (about 1494.2 RMB); Mitsubishi said last week that the average price of cars in the US will increase by 2.1%; Subaru, which reacted earlier to the tariffs, raised the prices of several models by $750-$2055 (about 5387.9-14762.9 RMB) in May; Honda's US branch also stated that some models may increase as part of standard price adjustments.

From the overall impact of the tariffs, Japanese automakers are not the only victims, Ford also increased the prices of three models produced in Mexico by $2000 (about 14,000 RMB) in May.
