Source: Kazinform — At the China-Kazakhstan Business Forum held in Shanghai, Nurkan Zhaqipov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund Public Joint Stock Company, said that China and Kazakhstan will jointly build a smart transport corridor spanning Eurasia, promoting deep integration of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence into international logistics networks.

Zhaqipov emphasized that competitiveness of transportation corridors is no longer determined solely by infrastructure construction—data, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence are playing an increasingly crucial role.

He noted that the next phase of cooperation will focus on constructing a smart transport corridor by combining modern logistics networks with technologies including AI, big data, digital twins, and intelligent freight management, thereby significantly enhancing cross-border transportation efficiency.

Currently, a comprehensive integrated logistics system has been established covering China’s Lianyungang Port, Khorgos East Gate Inland Port, Xi’an Railway Port, Aktau Port, and Almaty ZHETYSU Logistics Park. In 2027, Chengdu International Railway Port (Land Port) will officially join the network, further completing the international transport route from China’s Pacific coast through Kazakhstan and the Caspian Sea to Europe.

At the same time, the transport corridor will be accompanied by a series of major infrastructure projects. Once completed, the Bakhty-Ayagoz railway will form a third rail cross-border channel between China and Kazakhstan, with an annual capacity of up to 25 million tons.

Zhaqipov affirmed that both sides will jointly promote the construction of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), aiming to establish it as one of the most important international transport routes of the 21st century.

Beyond transportation and logistics, Samruk-Kazyna is also conducting broad cooperation with Chinese enterprises in energy, digitalization, and industrial sectors. Samruk-Kazyna serves as the Kazakh co-chair of the China-Kazakhstan Business Council, while the Chinese co-chair is CITIC Group. During the last two council meetings, both sides signed over 110 commercial cooperation documents totaling approximately $20 billion, covering areas such as energy, transportation, digitalization, and industry.

Saltaanat Tomybayeva, Chairperson of Kazakhstan’s Civil Aviation Committee under the Ministry of Transport, held consultations with Bai Wenli, Deputy Director of China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC), on topics including route expansion and airspace cooperation.

According to the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport, both sides agreed to increase the number of regular weekly passenger flights operated by airlines of the two countries from 124 to 152. Moreover, both sides discussed the feasibility of launching a direct flight from Astana to Shanghai, including potential operation by Chinese airlines. During the talks, both sides also discussed issues such as Kazakh airlines obtaining access to Chinese airport slots, using Chinese airspace, and signing inter-agency agreements on civil aviation search and rescue cooperation.

Both parties unanimously expressed their commitment to further deepen civil aviation cooperation, continuously expand bilateral air transport capacity, improve connectivity, and further strengthen the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China.
