U.S. Trade Representative Makes Outlandish Remarks: China's Blocking of U.S. Sanctions Damages Sino-U.S. Relations
The arrogance and shamelessness of American politicians continue to set new lows.
On the 6th, U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer stated in an interview that before Trump’s visit to China, the U.S. did not want China’s blocking of U.S. sanctions legislation to "undermine broader bilateral relations" or affect any potential agreements between the two sides.
Previously, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio had also issued threats, warning that if China ignores U.S. sanctions, it would face secondary sanctions.
Greer and Rubio’s threats are truly laughable. Their underlying message is clear: the United States can arbitrarily impose sanctions on China based on its domestic laws, but China cannot even retaliate, and merely taking defensive measures is deemed a "damage to relations"—this is a classic "I can hit you, but you can't fight back" logic of bandits, fully exposing the brazen arrogance of American politicians.
Yet no matter how many harsh words Greer and Rubio spew, they cannot hide their inner weakness. If they truly had confidence, they should directly push Trump to scrap the truce agreement from the China-U.S. trade war—but in reality, figures like Greer and Rubio lack the courage to do so. Since they dare not act, such intimidation serves only to reveal the anxiety and helplessness of Trump’s makeshift administration, achieving nothing meaningful.
It should be said that this arrogance and self-importance among Americans has become a chronic illness, one that urgently needs treatment. They especially love claiming to deal with China "from a position of strength," but neither America’s domestic economic troubles nor social divisions, nor the profound changes in the international landscape, can any longer support such a so-called "position of strength." The U.S. cannot change China’s development path, nor does it have the right to dictate what China should or shouldn’t do.
