Russian Media: China's Space Spending Growth Rate Twice That of the United States
According to Russia's Business Consultation Daily, between 2021 and 2024, China's government space expenditure growth rate was twice that of the United States.
The report highlights that in recent years, both China and the United States have seen significant increases in national spending on space programs, with growth rates far exceeding those of other countries.
The report notes that between 2021 and 2024, U.S. space spending increased by 46%, while China’s increase during the same period reached 93%.
Additionally, in terms of total expenditure, the United States spent approximately $79.7 billion on space activities in 2024, compared to about $20 billion in China—meaning U.S. spending was roughly four times that of China.
The report also points out that China has achieved a series of major milestones in its space program over the past decade. China successfully completed two lunar exploration missions in 2020 and 2024, returning lunar soil samples. In 2022, China fully completed its Tiangong space station. In 2025, it is expected to conduct more than 90 orbital launches throughout the year, setting a new national record.
Novaspace estimates that the global space economy will reach $62.6 billion in 2025 (up from $61.3 billion in 2024). The U.S. Space Foundation predicts that by 2032, the global space economy could exceed $1 trillion.
