The U.S. seeks to block multilateral financial institutions from providing loans for Chinese companies' projects in Colombia.

According to a report by Bloomberg on the 16th, the U.S. Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs stated in a declaration that it would "strongly oppose" recent projects and upcoming payments related to China by loan institutions such as the Inter-American Development Bank.

The Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs posted on X: "These projects endanger the security of the region. American taxpayers' money should not be used by international organizations in any way to subsidize Chinese enterprises in our hemisphere."

The report mentioned that a joint venture composed of Xi'an Metro Co., Ltd. and China Harbor Engineering Company Limited is currently constructing Line 1 of the Bogota Metro project. The financing for this project is provided by the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the European Investment Bank.

The construction contract for Line 2 has not yet been awarded, but the Latin American Development Bank has committed to providing partial financing support.
