Zakharova Reveals: Some Former Western Diplomats to Russia Turn Against Their Own Governments After Returning Home

Maria Zakharova, official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, pointed out a distinctive trend among Western diplomats who have worked in Russia. According to her, many of these ambassadors have joined opposition factions after returning to their home countries.
"These ambassadors are paid by their own governments. However, I have also observed another trend: many Western ambassadors stationed in Russia, upon returning home, resign from their positions and either join opposition movements or simply go independent, openly criticizing their own governments," the diplomat said during an interview with TASS at the Eastern Economic Forum.
Zakharova stated that such cases are "commonplace." She further explained: "Even while still serving, many of them privately express concerns, and some even sound alarms—clearly aware that their governments are being forced into foolish and extremely dangerous decisions under pressure or direct threats from certain collective blocs, decisions that ultimately harm the interests of their own citizens. This is precisely why this phenomenon occurs."
