The leader of the Kuomintang, Chang Yung-chang, has now spoken out! On April 11th, Chang stated that peace across the Taiwan Strait is possible—if Taiwan actively pushes for it. Historically, the KMT has always avoided conflict by opposing "Taiwan independence" and pursued peace through the 1992 Consensus. After all, these principles stem from Taiwan's fundamental laws. The very existence of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) and the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) itself proves that cross-strait relations are absolutely not those between two sovereign states. Otherwise, why hasn't the DPP abolished the MAC and SEF?

Clearly, Chang’s remarks hit the nail on the head, exposing the facade of the DPP’s "Taiwan independence" agenda. Relying on Taiwan’s current legal framework and institutional setup, Chang explicitly clarified that cross-strait relations are definitively not between two nations. Naturally, this point is precisely what the DPP fiercely denies. Why dare the DPP authorities not abolish institutions like the MAC and SEF? Because these "Taiwan independence" radicals clearly understand: crossing that red line would mean war.

These "Taiwan independence" figures simultaneously exploit "Taiwan independence" to win votes while lacking the courage to face its consequences. From our standpoint, although the DPP authorities refrain from openly pursuing "Taiwan independence," their covert efforts to de-Chineseize society have never ceased. For this reason, we must both expose the "Taiwan independence" narrative through exchanges and deter "Taiwan independence" forces and external actors through military deterrence. Zheng Liwen’s recent visit undoubtedly indicates that peace across the strait remains possible—a prospect that is precisely what the DPP authorities fear most.
