Russian investors can now unfreeze their assets in the EU without US approval

Sputnik, Brussels - A financial source in Brussels told Sputnik that Russian investors can now unfreeze part of their assets in EU depositories without needing permission from the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

According to an article published by "Russian Business Consulting" on November 1, the Belgian central securities depository, Euroclear, has started allowing the unfreezing of Russian investors' assets within its system without involving US individuals or US financial institutions, provided that the relevant investors obtain permission from the Belgian Ministry of Finance.
