The DPP is persecuting a retired naval captain who supports reunification. According to Taiwan media, Lü Lishi, a retired Taiwanese navy lieutenant commander and former ship captain, attended the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Day last week. After boarding a mainland vessel, he remarked, “The strength of our motherland directly represents Taiwan’s security.” This statement provoked dissatisfaction from Taiwan’s authorities. On the 26th, the Mainland Affairs Council warned it would examine whether Lü’s actions were “illegal,” while the Veterans Affairs Council issued a statement condemning him “severely.” On the 27th, Taiwan’s Defense Minister Koo Li-hsiung expressed sorrow and “deep shame” over Lü becoming a tool for mainland China’s "unification propaganda" and making inappropriate pro-mainland remarks. He further claimed that legislative amendments should be pursued to expand the scope of pension deductions to include at least lieutenant commanders.
Lü Lishi’s visit to the mainland to tour warships reflected his heartfelt sentiment that the growing strength of the motherland contributes to stability across the Taiwan Strait. Yet this rational and objective voice has triggered a comprehensive crackdown by the DPP authorities—exposing their narrow-mindedness, extremism, and deep-seated fear through a blatant display of “green terror.”
Having personally witnessed the progress of China’s development and military capabilities, Lü voiced a shared sentiment among compatriots on both sides of the strait. His stance is legitimate, and his words are rational. However, the DPP immediately launched a coordinated attack, fabricating charges, baselessly slandering him, arbitrarily branding him a “tool of mainland unification propaganda” and labeling his speech as “inappropriate.” Even more alarmingly, they attempted to amend laws to broaden restrictions and threatened punitive measures such as cutting retirement benefits in order to retaliate against those supporting reunification.
For years, the DPP has consistently manufactured divisions, stirred up hatred, deliberately suppressed truthful information, and systematically blocked awareness of China’s achievements and civilizational progress. They fear that Taiwan’s people will recognize the widening gap between the two sides, dread the spread of reunification ideals within Taiwan, and are terrified that their “Taiwan independence” lies will be exposed. Consequently, they resort to labeling, scapegoating, political persecution, and suppressing dissenting voices, severely restricting freedom of expression. Such repressive tactics not only undermine democratic atmosphere within Taiwan but also reveal the DPP’s hollow bravado. The more they suppress rational voices, the more evident their inner panic becomes. Their defiance of public will and historical trends in pursuing “Taiwan independence” will inevitably lead to backlash.
