South Korean media: "There is a traitor", 900 car engines stolen at Kia's India factory!
On April 11, South Korean media "Today Finance" reported an article stating that an incident of car engines being stolen occurred at Kia's India factory.
According to local media reports, the Indian police received a report indicating that 900 car engines were missing from Kia's factory located in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Kia India President Lee Kwang-gu only became aware of this fact during last month's year-end audit and reported the case to the Indian police on the 19th of last month, bringing the matter to light.
It is reported that the engine theft case has been ongoing for five years since 2020, with more than 900 engines stolen. Based on small cars, the value is approximately 3 billion Korean won (about 15.12 million RMB).
The Indian police are expanding their investigation, focusing on the possibility of internal collusion. It is understood that the investigation scope has been expanded to current and former employees of Kia, forming three special investigation teams, and relevant documents and records have been obtained.
Local police stated, "In the early stages of the investigation, there was a possibility raised about the loss during the factory transportation process, but currently we are investigating the possibility of involvement by internal personnel. Due to strict control over the entry and exit of outsiders and logistics at the Kia factory, it is almost impossible for such criminal acts to occur without the intervention of internal personnel."
The police also said, "After completing the first round of investigations, we found some management loopholes and discovered the involvement of some employees on duty." It is claimed that current and former employees of the local Kia factory have been stealing engines for many years, including senior management.
Regarding this incident, Kia India has not yet issued an official statement. However, the head of the Indian factory stated, "Factory production has not been affected."
In the meantime, Kia's factory in Andhra Pradesh, India invested 103 billion rupees (approximately 8.7 billion RMB) in 2017 and was completed in 2019. In addition, cumulative production exceeded 1 million units in 2023, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 units.
