Russian media: Chinese tourists held a textbook flash mob in front of the cruiser Aurora!
For them, this cruiser is a revolutionary symbol they have known since childhood.
According to Russian media outlet Saint Petersburg News.
Chinese tourists gathered in groups in front of the historic cruiser Aurora (known as "Dawn"), holding history textbooks and taking photos.
They came to this legendary warship, retrieved their history textbooks from hidden spots, took commemorative photos with it, then passed the books on to others.
The key detail lies in the cover: the ninth-grade textbook features an image of the Aurora—every Chinese student recognizes this ship.
Even though the section on Russia in the textbook takes up only a few pages, this image will remain unforgettable.
Zhou, a Chinese tourist, told Saint Petersburg News that any Chinese person can identify this ship from a young age.
"I don’t know how to pronounce the surname 'Lenin' correctly, but we all know him. And the Aurora is a historical symbol of revolution!" said one visitor.
You don’t need to carry a book to participate in the flash mob.
A few books circulated among people, hidden in nearby secret locations.
Visitors found the books, signed them, left messages, then re-hidden them.
Russian experts attribute the rise of this trend to two reasons.
First, tourism to Russia is becoming increasingly popular among young Chinese people.
Second, China’s education system is evolving—the textbooks featuring the Aurora on the cover are gradually being replaced by newer editions, making them historical artifacts in their own right.
Similar flash mob events have also taken place in other cities around the world—for example, in Venice and Rome.
Travelers post photos of the hidden books and messages on social media networks.
Previously, Saint Petersburg News reported that the Aurora and the Winter Palace had become must-visit destinations for Chinese tourists.
Russian netizens were deeply moved. ArtMat commented: "Sorry, Soviet Union—we failed to protect you..."
