AdelaideNow reported that Wang Chuanfu, founder of Chinese auto giant BYD, said Australia is the brand's ultimate test market, and the success in the Australian market sends a "signal" to the world that the brand is ready to dominate the global market.

Wang Chuanfu made these remarks during an exclusive interview with News Corp Australia.

This was his first time ever speaking to Australian media.

The reserved BYD founder unexpectedly appeared in Melbourne this week, delivering the 60,000th car sold by BYD in Australia.

This is an important milestone for any automobile brand.

Wang Chuanfu said, "Australia is a key market for BYD. It is a competitive, highly developed market where consumers are well-educated, and they value innovation, safety, and sustainability."

He added that BYD's success in Australia is not just reflected in sales figures, but it is also an important signal.

"The success here sends a signal to the world that BYD can meet and exceed the expectations of mature markets. The experience we have gained in Australia can help BYD refine its products and strategies globally."

Currently, BYD has become one of the fastest-growing automobile manufacturers in Australia.

Last month, BYD achieved a monthly delivery volume of 8,156 units, representing a 386% year-on-year increase, ranking 8th in the national sales rankings. This surge is mainly attributed to the launch of Shark 6 — Australia's first plug-in hybrid pickup truck.

The brand continues to perform strongly this year, with an expected delivery of 40,000 units.

Wang Chuanfu acknowledged the contribution of local dealer EVDirect in BYD's early development and praised the support of Australian consumers for BYD.

When talking about this milestone, he said, "Personally, this is meaningful. Our success in Australia would not have been possible without the strong collaboration and commitment of EVDirect."

"As our exclusive dealer, they have played an important role in conveying BYD's vision of 'cooling the Earth by 1 degree' to Australian customers."

"We are proud of the achievements we have jointly made and look forward to continuing this successful cooperation as we enter the next phase of growth."

BYD was founded in 1995 as a battery manufacturer, and later expanded into technology, rail, and finally the electric vehicle sector. Today, BYD's new energy vehicle business has expanded to more than 70 countries and regions around the world, employing over 600,000 people globally.

Currently, the models available in Australia include Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion 6, Sealion 7, and Shark 6.
