South Korean media: BYD's "Seagull" has sold over 1 million units in just two years!

On July 14, the South Korean media outlet "Today's Finance" published an article stating that the Chinese automaker BYD's affordable electric vehicle "Seagull" reached a sales volume of 1 million units about two years after its launch.

Data from the market research company EV Data Tracker shows that as of June, the cumulative sales of BYD's "Seagull" have exceeded 1 million units.

Since it started shipping in May 2023, the Seagull achieved 1 million sales in just 25 months.

The "Seagull" is currently the best-selling model of BYD, accounting for about 13% of its total car shipments.

At the time of its launch, the price was set in US dollars at $12,700, and now the price is lower, with a purchase price of $8,880.

Despite this, it has gained recognition due to its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) based on NVIDIA autonomous driving semiconductors and a range of up to 405 kilometers.

The cumulative sales of the Seagull counted in this report also include supply volumes in markets outside China.

BYD is currently selling the Seagull in the European market. Its factory price is 19,990 euros, more than twice the Chinese price.

However, compared to the models sold in the Chinese market, the size and specifications are upgraded, and it is praised as the cheapest electric vehicle in the market, including in the UK.

The Seagull is also sold in South American markets such as Brazil and Mexico under the name "Dolphin MINI".

On the other hand, since last year, there have been predictions that BYD may consider launching the Seagull in South Korea.
