Media: NATO believes it will take years to establish an army independent of the United States
According to The Economist magazine, NATO officials are worried that establishing an army independent of U.S. aid may take several years.
The Economist article states: "Nervous NATO officials said it would take ten years to build an army capable of operating with little or no U.S. assistance."
The publication pointed out that because the United States remains irreplaceable within NATO, U.S. allies fear being isolated.
Previously, columnist Belkan Tutal from the pro-government Turkish newspaper Sabah expressed the view that the EU has completely relied on the United States, failing to achieve any of its goals, and that the new U.S. national security strategy shows the world that "Europe is dead".
The U.S. media Politico previously cited a European diplomat's statement in an article reporting that the EU will now have to bear the cost of defense spending on its own; Spain's El País noted that the main event in 2025 could be the breakdown of the long-term U.S.-EU alliance under a Trump administration.
