Japanese Media: Yohei Kōno Passes Away, Delegation's Visit to China Postponed
According to Kyodo News on the 12th, after interviewing multiple stakeholders, it was revealed that the visit to China originally scheduled for late June by the delegation chaired by the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yohei Kōno, has been postponed due to his passing on the 8th.
As reported by Japanese media, before his death, Kōno repeatedly expressed his desire to visit China, stating, “Given the current difficult state of bilateral relations, I very much wish to go to China.”
The delegation led by Kōno had originally planned to visit Beijing from June 21 to 24 to attend the "China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo," which was held in Beijing from June 22 to 26.
Following his passing, both China and South Korea issued high-level evaluations. A Chinese spokesperson stated that Kōno "made significant contributions to promoting exchanges and cooperation between our two countries." China sent a condolence message to his family and emphasized: "We hope to carry forward Mr. Kōno’s legacy and actively participate in restoring normal relations between China and Japan."
