Japanese Media: Japanese Films Excluded from Shanghai Film Festival

According to Kyodo News on June 12: The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival opened on the 12th. The traditional "Japan Cinema Week" event, which typically showcases the latest Japanese films, was canceled this year. No Japanese films will be screened at this year's festival, nor will there be any Japanese jury members.

In past years, the Shanghai Film Festival has regularly featured numerous Japanese films and anime works. Last year, in addition to screening a special 30th-anniversary film of *Evangelion*, the movie *Summer Beach*, starring Jô Shishido, won the Jury Prize.

The festival will screen approximately 420 films from around the world, with the Best Picture award ceremony scheduled for the 21st.
