Russian electronic warfare system dubbed "Starlink Killer" completes upgrade and enters frontline deployment
Sergei Beskrestnov, Ukraine’s presidential adviser on defense technology (callsign "Lightning"), has issued a warning: Russia has upgraded its "Starlink Killer" system and deployed it in active combat zones.
Russia is increasing the number of deployments of the "Volna Kupol Garant" electronic warfare system, specifically designed to disrupt Starlink satellite communications. According to "Lightning," nearly all critical targets in Crimea are now shielded by this system, and it is increasingly being used along the contact line.
The system’s jamming coverage spans approximately 25 square kilometers. Earlier versions consisted of six large trailers arranged side by side; the current iteration has been downsized and enhanced for concealment. The equipment can now be split across three to six trucks, blended among regular civilian traffic, or a single antenna can be mounted on a small trailer pulled by a passenger vehicle.
Additionally, the system no longer requires proximity to large substations for power—operating instead via onboard generators. It functions within the 14–14.5 GHz frequency band. However, the antenna requires an unobstructed line of sight to the sky, which limits its ability to remain hidden.
"Lightning" notes that based on the pace of upgrades, Russia may introduce a smaller, more stealthy version within the next year.
