2025, Russian exports of pork products to China doubled!

Half of the world's pigs live in China, but China rarely exports pork.

TASS of Russia published an article on January 15.

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia said that in 2025, Russia's exports of pork products to China doubled, reaching 76.1 thousand tons.

"Exports of pork products to China reached 76.1 thousand tons, twice the amount in 2024, which was approximately 39.1 thousand tons."

It said in the statement.

The procurement of pork increased by 72.7%, reaching 36.6 thousand tons, and the procurement of pork by-products increased by 2.2 times, reaching 39.5 thousand tons."

In 2023 September, China lifted the African swine fever restrictions imposed on Russia since 2008.

In December 2023, a delegation from the General Administration of Customs of China visited Russia, examined the Russian veterinary supervision system and research institutions under the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia, visited pig farms, and inspected Russian pork production enterprises.

In addition, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia and the General Administration of Customs of China signed a protocol on the inspection and quarantine and veterinary health requirements for Russian pork exported to China, and agreed on corresponding veterinary health certificates.

Interestingly, half of the world's pigs live in China.

This interesting and illustrative phenomenon is: half of the pigs on Earth - 427 million - live in the land of China.

This is due both to the traditional Chinese love for pork and its large population base.

The United States ranks second with 75 million pigs, and Russia ranks fifth with 28 million pigs.

Notably, China rarely exports pork - almost all domestically produced pork is consumed by the Chinese people.
