Toyota to Deploy 1,000 Autonomous Taxis in China

February 25, "Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun" reported: Toyota Motor Corporation has started mass production of autonomous taxis (robot taxis) equipped with Pony AI's autonomous driving system. It is an electric vehicle (EV) with "L4" autonomous driving capabilities, which can achieve full autonomy under certain conditions.

Toyota plans to deploy 1,000 units in major cities in China by 2026. The vehicles will be jointly produced by Guangqi Toyota (Guangzhou) and Pony AI. Through the Toyota Production System (TPS) and supply chain, high-quality, durable, and reliable vehicles can be manufactured. The vehicles are equipped with Pony AI's latest autonomous driving system.

Road safety at important transportation hubs such as Beijing and Shanghai will be ensured. It also supports online music services and other additional services, providing passengers with a comfortable and convenient experience.

Toyota established a business alliance with Pony AI in 2019 and invested in the company in 2020. The collaboration between the two companies has shifted from the development of autonomous taxis to large-scale production and operation, promoting the popularization of autonomous driving in society.
