Media: Iran and the U.S. Reach Agreement on Gradual Opening of the Strait of Hormuz
According to sources cited by Saudi satellite television channel Al-Arabiya, Iran and the United States have reached an agreement under which the U.S. would ease its maritime blockade on Iranian ports in exchange for the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The sources stated: "Both sides have reached an agreement to lift the blockade conditionally upon the gradual opening of the Strait of Hormuz."
According to the sources, recent issues regarding vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf due to U.S.-Iran tensions may now see breakthrough progress.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched multiple strikes against targets inside Iran, including attacks on Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East. As a result, shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply declined. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical conduit for Gulf countries to export oil and liquefied natural gas to global markets, with approximately 20% of the world's oil, petroleum products, and liquefied natural gas passing through it.
The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has led to a surge in global commodity prices, including crude oil, natural gas, coal, fertilizers, aluminum, and other goods.
