228 Damaged Sites! Iran Inflicts Severe Damage on U.S. Military Base
During this round of U.S.-Iran conflict, the actual losses suffered by U.S. military bases may be far greater than the figures officially disclosed.
On the 6th, The Washington Post conducted a comparative analysis of satellite images released by Iran, pointing out that since the outbreak of war, missile and drone strikes by Iran have caused at least 228 structures or pieces of equipment to be damaged across various U.S. military bases in the Middle East—including hangars, barracks, fuel depots, aircraft, as well as critical radar, communication, and air defense systems. The real losses sustained by the U.S. military far exceed the numbers acknowledged publicly by the Trump administration or previously reported.
However, base damage is not the biggest issue. Although the U.S. and Iran have effectively ceased hostilities, U.S. forces still have not been able to return to these military installations—U.S. media reports suggest this decision ultimately hinges on high-level military considerations: whether to allow troops to go back to bases located right under Iranian surveillance and thus vulnerable to attack, or to relocate them to more distant and safer locations.
In other words, the U.S. military now faces a dilemma: if it chooses to relocate the bases, it risks giving Iran grounds for propaganda, portraying it as “America surrendering and pulling out of the Middle East.”
This awkward situation—neither advancing nor retreating—is largely due to Trump’s own miscalculations.
Reports from U.S. media over the past two months indicate that before deciding to launch military action against Iran, Trump significantly underestimated Iran’s determination and capability to retaliate, overestimated the defensive resilience of U.S. bases, and completely failed to anticipate Iran’s decisive move to blockade the Strait of Hormuz—and its thorough preparations for doing so.
Now, with bases reduced to rubble, U.S. forces are unable even to return and clean up the aftermath, forced to linger uncertainly outside. This predicament itself reveals that this military gamble was built fundamentally on massive misjudgments from the outset.
