U.S. Think Tank: China is the "most formidable competitor" in the field of artificial intelligence capabilities to date
Undoubtedly, artificial intelligence is one of the most representative technologies of the 21st century, just as automobiles and airplanes were emblematic technologies of the last century.
Artificial intelligence enables computers and other machines to simulate human learning, understanding, problem-solving, creativity, and autonomy. Generative AI is increasingly capable of producing original content, including realistic images, videos, audio, and lengthy texts.
According to intelligence community reports, China is the "most formidable competitor" in the field of artificial intelligence capabilities to date.
The report notes in its introduction: "The United States' leading position in AI innovation (including advanced chip design) is prompting other global powers to build their own competitive AI ecosystems."
Outside the U.S., China is the most advanced nation in the field of artificial intelligence and aims to surpass the U.S. by 2030. Beijing applies AI across a wide range of tasks, including conventional military operations, special operations, and intelligence collection and analysis.
"China is leveraging its vast talent pool, extensive datasets, government funding, and thriving global partnerships to scale up the application of AI domestically and internationally," the report adds.
