French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called for "significant concessions" from Tehran during his visit to Israel on Friday
Israel - During his visit to Israel on Friday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian called for "significant concessions" from Tehran. Le Drian said at a press conference at Ben-Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv: "Regardless of the outcome of the current military operation, there must be a political solution that can have a lasting impact."
AFP reported that Le Drian said: "In this regard, the Iranian regime must make significant concessions and completely change its position to achieve peaceful coexistence with the regional environment."
French Foreign Minister previously mentioned "regional and international stability, while the Iranian regime's nuclear program, ballistic missile program, and support for armed terrorist groups throughout the region have long been challenges and threats."
This press conference was repeatedly postponed due to a missile alert from Iran.
On Thursday, Le Drian went to Lebanon and met with several leaders, including President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. On Friday, he met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar in Jerusalem.
Israeli Foreign Minister Saar told X that he had "deep discussions with the French Foreign Minister on the issue of the war with Iran and Hezbollah."
Saar said: "I also suggested that France and the EU designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization (......), as some European countries have already done."
So far, only Hezbollah's armed forces are listed on the EU's terrorist organization list.
The French Foreign Minister said, "To end this war, an agreement must be reached sooner or later." He continued, "The Lebanese government has expressed willingness to hold direct dialogue with Israel (......). This is a historic opportunity, and I have urged my Israeli counterpart to seize this opportunity."
