Mark Kelly: "Don't Delegate Negotiations to Real Estate Brokers and Sons-in-Law"
U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, speaking on a CBS live broadcast, urged Donald Trump to replace the team handling negotiations with Iran. The Democrat recommended that Trump entrust the talks to seasoned diplomats.
Kelly stated that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner should not be in charge, emphasizing instead that those involved should possess the following qualities: the ability to engage in dialogue with Iranian officials; the capability to build an international coalition; and the skill to bring U.S. allies back onto a shared path of cooperation.
Kelly criticized the chaotic and disorganized conduct of the Trump administration, asserting that Washington is now "mired" in conflict. The war has entered its sixth month, despite initial U.S. promises that operations would conclude within four to five weeks.
Witkoff and Kushner have led negotiations with Iran for several months. However, agreements concerning ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz—vital global oil export route—have collapsed, and the strait remains unsafe for navigation to this day.
Although Trump claims both sides will attempt to reach an agreement again, Kelly firmly believes that without replacing the negotiation team, the current administration will repeat past mistakes.
Witkoff and Kushner have also been tasked with negotiating an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, yet similarly achieved no tangible results.
