According to AztV, an Azerbaijani television station, the Azerbaijani National Security Service uncovered and prevented a terrorist attack plan orchestrated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
The National Security Service of Azerbaijan stated that the targets of the attack were strategically significant facilities and representatives of religious groups within Azerbaijan.
Potential targets included:
- The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline
- The Israeli embassy in Azerbaijan
- A leader of the mountain Jewish community
- A Ashkenazi synagogue
It is reported that three explosive devices had been smuggled into Azerbaijan. The special departments prevented the devices from being handed over to the relevant individuals, thus avoiding potential casualties and facility damage.
