11 regional white oil tanks stand tall! The Pentagon is on edge, and China is preparing to take it seriously?

Reuters recently revealed that China is planning to add 11 new oil reserve bases in 2025 and 2026, with a total capacity of up to 26.8 million cubic meters (approximately 169 million barrels). These oil tanks standing in Shandong, Yunnan, Liaoning and other places are mostly marked as "commercial reserves," but they carry out strategic tasks for national energy security.

Once these new reserve bases are completed, they will be able to store crude oil equivalent to two weeks of net imports. For the world's largest crude oil importer, whose dependence on foreign oil is approaching 60%, this is undoubtedly a crucial step in its energy security strategy.

The current oil reserves are equivalent to 110 days of consumption, and this number may increase to 140-180 days by 2026. Between 2020 and 2024, China increased its oil storage capacity by 180-190 million barrels.

China's large-scale increase in oil reserves has caused the most anxiety at the Pentagon. However, it can be understood, because what makes China happy, the US must not be pleased, and vice versa. But this time, it involves strategic oil reserves, and the Pentagon is still worried whether China might take it seriously in the Taiwan Strait.
