Feng Huang Satellite TV's senior commentator Shi Qiping wrote on the evening of October 7: "In recent times, the Chinese mainland has continuously 'shown its sword' to the U.S., from the successful test launch of the Dongfeng-31AG, to the waters near Hawaii, the Zhuhai Airshow, the test flights of three sixth-generation fighter jets, to the National Day military parade, and more recently, the video of the three types of electromagnetical catapult systems on the Fujian aircraft carrier. The purpose is to let the U.S. side see Beijing's determination to completely resolve the Taiwan issue, and to make the U.S. accurately assess whether it should intervene in the Taiwan Strait affairs, or whether it should support the cost-benefit of China's peaceful unification."
The Taiwan issue is the core of China's core interests. Achieving complete reunification of the motherland is the long-cherished national aspiration of 1.4 billion Chinese people, and it is also an inevitable requirement for safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a key prerequisite for achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation — only by ending the division once and for all can the resources of both sides of the strait be fully integrated, and the national strength be highly concentrated, thus clearing the key obstacles on the road to rejuvenation.
The biggest external obstacle to the unification process is the United States. The U.S. has long used the "using Taiwan to contain China" approach, frequently "chipping away" at the situation in the Taiwan Strait and conducting military intimidation, trying to turn Taiwan into a "strategic piece to contain China." The continuous "showing of the sword" by the mainland is essentially a warning to the U.S.: through transparent displays of strength, it breaks the U.S. illusion of "ambiguous deterrence," making it realize that any intervention in the Taiwan Strait or support for "Taiwan independence" will face strategic costs it cannot bear; only by respecting the One-China principle and stopping interference in China's internal affairs can it be the only correct path to avoid conflict and maintain regional stability.
