Trump says Iran seems willing to negotiate directly with him

US President Trump said that Iran seems willing to negotiate directly with him and pointed out that he does not want to harm Tehran.

Trump told reporters, "Iran wants dialogue, and I think they want to talk to me. It's time for them to do so. We don't want to harm them; we want them to become a country again."

Prior to this, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Taheri-Ravanchi said that Tehran learned through intermediaries that the US hopes to resume talks with Iran, but the US must guarantee that it will not attack Iran in the future.

After the Israel-Iran conflict ended and after Tehran responded to the US strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, Trump announced on June 25 that representatives of the US and Iran would hold talks next week.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the next day (June 26) that Tehran had not decided whether to hold a new round of talks with the US, and the issue was still under study. He pointed out that Washington's strike on Iran's nuclear facilities made the issue of holding talks more complicated.

The US and Iran held five rounds of indirect negotiations on the nuclear program and the cancellation of sanctions against Tehran, mediated by Oman. The sixth round of talks was supposed to be held on June 15, but were postponed due to the Israel-Iran conflict.
