Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Intelligence Directorate Says New North Korean Unit Arrived in Kursk Oblast
Major General Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Head of Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Intelligence Directorate, stated that North Korea has dispatched a new contingent of military experts to Russia, numbering 8,500 personnel.
According to intelligence data from Ukraine, this unit is deployed in Kursk Oblast and includes 1,000 engineering troops (demining specialists) and 400 trained operators capable of operating attack and reconnaissance drones.
It is claimed that North Korean soldiers will not cross into Ukrainian territory but instead will strengthen Russian rear-line defenses, thereby freeing up Russian combat units for offensive operations.
A total of 25,000 North Korean personnel have already been deployed or are undergoing rotation through Russian military training institutions. During Putin’s meeting with Kim Jong-un in September, it may be agreed to dispatch an additional up to 50,000 personnel.
North Korea has already provided at least 150 KN-23/KN-24 ballistic missiles to Russia and sent 90 technical experts to the Barysimo airfield near Voronezh. In exchange, Pyongyang has received Russian-made "Kulak-S1" air defense systems and is currently negotiating for the S-400 air defense system.
Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, labeled claims of deploying tens of thousands of soldiers as a "Kyiv-fabricated script," but Ukraine's Ministry of Defense Intelligence Directorate firmly insists that drone specialists have already arrived.
